Best home charger for Polestar 2
A UK Polestar 2 uses Type 2 for AC at home. Brochure DC and “rapid” kW figures are for public rapids, not a driveway wallbox. Check the handbook for your car’s onboard AC charging limit; it sets the maximum a home wallbox can deliver.
Most UK houses are single-phase. On that supply a 7.4 kW wallbox is a 32 A circuit, whatever the car will take. Our catalogue lists Type 2 wallboxes; most current rows are 7.0–7.4 kW, and two are 22 kW three-phase. We do not list a Polestar-branded wallbox. Tethered vs socket is the driveway, not the car: tethered vs untethered. Easee One is untethered only in our data. Type 1 vs Type 2 is the connector page. 7 kW vs 22 kW is the supply page. How long a home session takes is the house supply plus that onboard limit. The Skoda Enyaq page is another Type 2 row — brochure rapid figures are public DC, not a driveway clock. The Audi Q4 e-tron page is that MEB sister. The BMW i4 page is another Type 2 row. The Tesla Model 3 page is another Type 2 row — Supercharger kW is public DC, not the driveway unit. The Volvo XC40 Recharge page is another Type 2 row — brochure rapid figures are public DC, not a driveway clock. The Renault Zoe page is another Type 2 row — brochure rapid figures are public, not a driveway clock. The Ford Mustang Mach-E page is another Type 2 row — brochure rapid figures are public DC, not a driveway clock. A Nissan Leaf may still be Type 1 — look at the inlet before anyone orders a Type 2-only tethered lead.
We do not publish typical install prices or grant deductions on car pages.

Home wallbox vs public rapid
A home wallbox is AC. It uses the car’s onboard converter. A public rapid is DC. Those brochure kW numbers do not describe the driveway unit.
CCS on a rapid charger is a different plug from the Type 2 home session. Do not pick a 22 kW catalogue row to “match rapid speed”. Charging speed at home is the house supply plus the handbook AC figure. We do not print a miles-per-hour table or an empty-to-full clock for the Polestar 2.
Polestar 2 trims still use Type 2 for AC at home. Pack size or motor count is not a different wallbox standard. Confirm the handbook AC figure for the car you have.
What the catalogue actually lists
Every current row is a Type 2 wallbox. We do not list a Polestar wallbox, a Polestar-branded home unit, or a Type 1 home unit.
On the current snapshot, most rows are 7.0–7.4 kW. Two current rows are listed at 22 kW: NexBlue Edge and Easee Charge. Both taglines say they are for three-phase supplies. Easee One stays at 7.4 kW and is untethered only in our data.
A few other rows mention a 22 kW three-phase SKU in the copy while the listed power is still 7.4 kW (Zaptec Go 2, Wallbox Pulsar Max, Project EV Apex, Andersen Quartz). We quote the listed figure, not a brochure sibling.
The homepage cards — Ohme Home Pro, MyEnergi Zappi, Hypervolt Home 3 — are all 7.4 kW. Catalogue From figures are hardware RRP, not a fitted total. We do not pick a “best Polestar 2 charger”.
Unless the electrician has already confirmed a three-phase supply, pick a 7.0–7.4 kW row. A 22 kW-rated wallbox does not turn a single-phase house into a three-phase site.
Tethered vs untethered is a different question
Tethered vs untethered is whether the lead lives on the wallbox, or you bring your own Type 2 cable. That is the parking bay, not a Polestar option. Where we print a tethered length the figures are 5 m, 6 m, 7 m, or 7.5 m — see 5 m vs 7.5 m. Pick that lead against the parking bay, not the fuse box.
A tethered catalogue unit arrives with a Type 2 lead. That lead will fit a Type 2 Polestar 2 inlet. An untethered unit is a Type 2 socket. Several rows are marked “both”. Easee One is untethered only. Do not assume Polestar includes a cable with every UK Polestar 2. A price gap between tethered and socketed units is not quoted here.
The dedicated circuit from the consumer unit is a different length from that lead. How far the charger can sit from the fuse box is that install run.
Smart flags that are not a Polestar 2 ranking
New private wallboxes sold in Great Britain must be smart. That is the Smart Charge Points Regulations, not a Polestar option. Smart vs dumb is which extras you want.
The useful catalogue flags, not a ranked “best for Polestar 2” list:
- Tariff APIs. Ohme Home Pro, Ohme ePod and Indra Smart Pro are marked octopus-compatible. Andersen Quartz and Hypervolt Home 3 Pro list Intelligent Octopus Go under tariff APIs. See smart energy tariffs. Head-to-head: Pod Point vs Ohme and Ohme vs Zappi.
- Solar / surplus-PV. 30 of 41 current rows are marked. Zappi vs Hypervolt is that pair. Solar guide is the flag, not a Polestar grant.
- Load balancing. 37 of 41 current rows are marked. Home Pro, Zappi, Solo 3 and Andersen A2 are not. Load balancing is a current cap, not a rapid-charger feature.
A p/kWh saving, a payback, and a preferred brand are not stated here.
What a useful quote should name
Ask for the exact catalogue model — “a Polestar charger” is not a SKU we list — and whether it is tethered or socketed. Then the cable run they priced, whether consumer-unit work is included or excluded, certification, DNO notification, and VAT. What to expect from the quote is the list.
Name the car as a Polestar 2 if you already know. A photo of the Type 2 inlet next to the parking-place photo is usually enough for a first look.
Compare itemised lines if more than one opted-in installer replies. There is no ChargerFit SLA that you will get three quotes.
Grants in 2026
From 1 April 2026 the live GOV.UK chargepoint schemes pay up to £500 per socket (75% of the cost, capped at £500). Funding is confirmed until 31 March 2027. See current GOV.UK rules.
You may qualify if you rent, own and live in a flat with private off-street parking, are a residential landlord, or only have on-street parking and are fitting a cross-pavement solution. Owner-occupiers in houses with a driveway are not on those home schemes.
A catalogue row is not a grant approval. Do not have the charger installed until OZEV has confirmed you are eligible. See who still qualifies.
