INSTALLATION

EV charger installation in Edinburgh

By Alex 2 min read

If you want a home wallbox in Edinburgh, start with the charger catalogue then get a quote. We pass the enquiry to opted-in OZEV-authorised electricians. We do not promise a number of quotes, a reply time, NICEIC coverage, or a public installer list for this city.

UK OZEV chargepoint grants apply in Scotland as well as England, Wales and Northern Ireland. We do not quote a separate Home Energy Scotland charger amount here. Check current Scottish schemes separately if they matter to you.

We do not publish typical install prices for Edinburgh. The electrician itemises the unit, the cable run, any consumer-unit work, and certification.

Planning sits with City of Edinburgh Council

City of Edinburgh Council is the local planning authority. England’s GPDO Classes D and E do not apply. Scotland uses the Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) (Scotland) Order 1992. Scottish Government Circular 2/2024, Annex E describes Classes 9E (wall-mounted) and 9F (upstands) in a qualifying parking area. The size, set-back, or conservation limits are not quoted here. Ask the council.

Do I need permission? is the England-first page. Use it for landlord and leasehold consent, not as a Scottish PD checklist. Glasgow is the other Scottish city page on this site.

Listed buildings and the Old Town / New Town World Heritage setting are a separate consent question. Listed-building consent explains the English listed rule; in Edinburgh you still ask the council. A tenement bay is a flat question (freeholder or factor). DNO notification is the electrician’s job for the supply that serves the property.

Grants in 2026

A city URL does not change the OZEV amount. Who still qualifies sits on OZEV grant 2026 — who is still eligible?. From 1 April 2026 the live GOV.UK schemes pay up to £500 per socket. Do not have the charger installed until OZEV has confirmed you are eligible. Current GOV.UK rules.

How the enquiry path works is the same everywhere. Coverage depends on who has opted in for your postcode, not on a city page that claims every street is covered.
